It looks like this will be the
first in a new series of discussions about equipment and maintenance.
I am going to try to convey some ideas about machines how they
operate and maintenance but I will try to relate it to real life
experiances from my customers of this week or the week before.
I may not always be able to do so but after 18 years I think I
can cover some weeks if nothing of interest occurs.
This week one item sticks out
which was very basic but many do not know of or understand.
I had a customer call and ask
for a quote on 80 new gearmotors for a brand of slush machines.
I gave the price which is where many companies would have left
off. But I was a little curious about that many motors so I asked
why do you need so many. It seems they bought a bulk lot of machines
and the motors were all bad. So I suggested for them to send the
motors to me and I could rebuild them for about a third the cost
of new. They did not even know it was possible to rebuild the
motors. I could even sell them the parts to rebuild them themselves.
With somethings it is possible
to repair them rather than to replace them. Gearmotors, Valves,
many other parts of machines its more economical to repair than
replace them and its always good to ask. Can it be fixed sometimes
the answer is yes and sometimes the answer is no but its always
free to ask!!
