Dear
Friends,
I
was reading an article in Forbes magazine the other day in which
it was discussed the world "child labor" issue almost
in detail. It soon brought to my mind my childhood and the way
I lived it. Let me tell you that the first ten years of my life
were without doubt the happiest decade in my entire life. yes!
If you want to interpret what happened to me in those years and
feed it to those liberal minds that are ruining the world today
then you get child labor out of it. Quite often since I have been
in Texas, I tell people that I grew up in old business, to which
I get lots of "WOW! WOW!". Of course when I clarify
that it was olive oil I get laughter instead. It is true though
that I worked with my parents picking olives from the ground during
the winter olive harvest season for as long as my mind can remember.
It is also true that the value I got from it all brought immeasurable
value to my life. I remember my father tracking on a piece of
paper that baskets of olives me and my sister filled during the
day and crediting a fraction of what we know today as a penny
adding it progressively up and making it incredibly interesting.
I never missed school because of this (my father would never have
allowed that and the contribution that this process has made to
my life and to the building of family cohesiveness overall is
immeasurable. I do not condone factories employing children but
I deplore the criticism that the paper directs towards the poor
families in Africa and in India in particular that for need as
well as to teach value let their kids help in family's small time
agriculture as well as home needs. I cant say enough about my
parents and the contribution (besides having brought me to this
world) they made to my life, my ambitions, my values, my pride
, my drive .....
....my all
Domenic
PS:
How do you judge my experience and the experience of millions
of American kids spending time watching TC or worse yet playing
video games .?
